Finland: Snow Village Activity Week
Snowmobile, snowshoe and search for the Aurora
Since the first Snow Village was built in 2010, this magnificent destination has gone from strength to strength. Each year thousands of tonnes of snow are brought in to build the village and each year the theme changes, bringing something fresh and new. Indeed, so popular is the Snow Village concept worldwide now that brothers Rami and Tomi Kurtakko who came up with the idea so many years ago have recently been overseeing the construction of a similar village in Montreal, Canada.
Our Snow Village Activity Week is the perfect choice for those in search of an all-action break. Situated 200km above the Arctic Circle, you will spend days exploring the sheer beauty of your surroundings on husky sleds and snowmobiles. Your base will be a cosy log cabin, an ideal location to relax, warm up and unwind after a fun-filled day facing the elements. One night, however, you’ll be able to enjoy an experience like no other – an evening in one of the fabulous Snow Hotel Ice Rooms. Here everything is made out of ice - from the furniture, including the beds, to the resident restaurant and bar. No worries about your glass of white losing its chill here!
Days on your Snow Village Activity Week are simply magical. You’ll really get to know the area, immerse yourself in the way of life and understand the local people. It’s one highlight after another as you try ice-sculpting, snowshoeing, ice-fishing and even travel in the footsteps of Santa on a reindeer pulled sleigh!
During your Snow Village Activity Week you may be lucky enough to spot the Northern Lights. This mystical, natural light display draws people from all parts of the globe. Of course, an appearance is never guaranteed but, should the Aurora show itself, you will be in the right place to enjoy a fabulous view. To increase your light spotting chances, your holiday includes an excursion into the wilderness by snowmobile. You’ll travel to a traditional Lappish hut where you will relax by an open fire, listening to stories about the aurora, whilst waiting for the lights to put in appearance. Will you be lucky? Who knows? But there’s much fun to be had in the thrill of the chase.
