Finland: Arctic Wilderness Experience at Menesjarvi
Enjoy the great outdoors in Arctic territory
Around a quarter of Finland lies within the Arctic realm, meaning that this area is subjected to the Northern Lights in wintertime. On this Arctic wilderness experience you will travel during the Finnish winter, when snow envelops the countryside in a pristine white blanket for around 200 days of the year. This makes fun activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowshoeing possible, and you can have a go at all of these outdoor pursuits throughout the course of your Arctic wilderness experience. While this part of Finland experiences very low temperatures during winter, the native people are well equipped for dealing with the cold and will provide you with adequate outdoor clothing that will keep you warm when partaking in the snow-based activities.
This holiday lets you see just how beautiful Finland is, especially in the winter. Forest covers the majority of the country while approximately 10% is made up of rivers and lakes, so it really is a wild and wonderful place. The countryside offers a pristine natural environment to an abundance of wildlife, some of which you may be lucky enough to spot during your Arctic wilderness experience. For the duration of the week, you will stay at the friendly Hotel Korpikartano on the shores of the idyllic Lake Menesjärvi in Finnish Lapland. Only an hour’s drive away from Ivalo Airport, the hotel is easily reached and the closest village is the traditional and charming Sámi settlement of Inari. Although sightings cannot be guaranteed on your Arctic wilderness holiday, Lake Menesjärvi is one of the best places in Finland for Northern Lights encounters.
