With a base at a superior South Iceland Country Hotel in the Selfoss region, you will be perfectly situated to tour the Golden Circle and have the best chance of catching sight of the elusive Aurora Borealis. The remote location of your hotel gets you away from the light pollution of Iceland’s towns to give you the clear skies that make for the best views of the Northern Lights.

When you’re not hunting for the Aurora, you can make the most of your hire car and explore the many attractions of South Iceland. See the incredible Geysir Springs and witness the geysers spouting water up to 30 metres into the air and when you're done, delve into the fascinating volcanic formations at Þingvellir national park on a tour of the Golden Circle. You can also take a drive down to the Reykjanes Peninsula and hike across some of the world’s most unusual landscapes or head to Reykjavik and experience some of the historical and cultural highlights of Iceland. A visit to Þjórsárdalur Valley is a thrilling trip for anyone visiting South Iceland. Home to the Viking ruins of Stong, this intriguing location is the ideal place to explore the history of the country on your self drive Northern Lights break.

For your final night you will stay at the Northern Lights Inn, just a short walk from the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most incredible attractions.   • Day 1 - Arrival in Reykjavik

    On arrival in Reykjavik you will pick up your hire car before journeying on to your country hotel and getting your self drive Northern Lights tour underway.

  • Days 2 to 4 - Optional Excursions

    This trip gives your the freedom to explore your chosen attractions in South Iceland. Highlights include:

    A Golden Circle Tour:

    Your location in the Selfoss region is ideal for exploring the many wonders of the Golden Circle. A visit to Þingvellir National Park gives you the chance to venture into the volcanic formations that have fascinated so many, including the rift between two tectonic plates. You can also see the water columns at Geysir reaching heights of up to 30 metres and of course, you can capture pictures of the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall.

    Aurora Hunting:

    Your superior South Iceland Country Hotel offers an exceptional location for spotting the Northern Lights. Removed from the light pollution of towns and surrounded by incredible viewpoints, it provides the best opportunity of seeing the Aurora.

    Glacier Hiking:

    Try your hand at walking across these icy mountains and perhaps ice-climbing as you cross incredible formations and explore mysterious caves.

    South Iceland Sightseeing:

    Sadly, after your trip to the Blue Lagoon, it is time for your journey home.
