    Activities and Excursions

There are so many fascinating places to visit around the Hotel Ranga on a fly drive holiday, and so many new activities to try. Below are some of the options that will be available to you during the course of your Hotel Ranga short break, and we can help by arranging them for you prior to your departure.

    Dog Sledding

One of the most popular winter pastimes in Iceland is dog sledding, which is an exhilarating experience that everyone must try at least once. An instructor will teach you the basic commands necessary for controlling your pack of huskies, after which you will set off into the snowy wilderness for an experience like no other.

Another common activity in Iceland when snow blankets the ground is snowmobiling. The vehicles are quite easy to drive and a guide will help you grasp the technique prior to setting off on a thrilling ride through the wintry scenery. All equipment is provided, but you must possess a valid driving licence in order to take part.

    Hunt for the Northern Lights

People choose the Hotel Ranga for a fly drive holiday because it is a likely place to spot the sensational Northern Lights. However, given that you will have your own rental car, you can improve your chances of seeing the elusive phenomena by taking an evening drive through the countryside to actively search for them.

    Glacier Hiking

There are several glaciers along the south coast of Iceland, and while they may look impressive from afar, it is nothing compared to how they look when you are stood on top of one! Take a guided hike across the glacier and explore the deep crevasses, worm holes and ice caves. Crampons and ice axes are provided to help you scale the glacier with ease.

    Blue Lagoon

With all of the exciting outdoor activities to try during your time at the Hotel Ranga on a fly drive, you will likely need somewhere to relax and recharge at the end of it all. The Blue Lagoon is the ideal place. Let the warm, mineral-rich waters soothe your muscles, and if you are visiting after dark, keep an eye on the skies for a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

    Golden Circle Tour

Combine three of Iceland’s most incredible sights into one complete tour. Visit the famous Geysir Hot Springs and witness super-heated water shoot high into the air from one of the vents. Feel the cooling mist of the magnificent Gullfoss Waterfall, which looks even more impressive in the snow. And finally, spend some time in ?ingvellir National Park where you can delve into its fascinating history and explore the unique geological features.

    Reykjanes Peninsular

This part of Iceland has it all – dramatic coastal scenery, snow-capped mountains, picturesque valleys and a wealth of flora and fauna. The best way to explore is on foot, so make sure you pack your walking boots for your Hotel Ranga fly drive and follow one of the numerous hiking trails.

    Þjórsárdalur Valley

Take a drive to this remarkable place, which is steeped in history. See the remains of ancient Viking farms that have been preserved over the years underneath layers of ash that fell after a violent eruption by Hekla Volcano in 1104.
