Norway: Tromso Northern Lights City Break
See the Northern Lights over Tromso
Tromsø is one of Norway’s most charming cities. With a location high above the Arctic Circle, it claims to be the last major settlement on the way to the North Pole. This makes it an ideal place for a Northern Lights city break as the phenomena are frequently spotted at these high latitudes. Every year between October and March, the dark skies are often illuminated by swirling curtains of multicoloured light, creating a spectacular ethereal display. If you are witnessing the Aurora Borealis for the first time on a Northern Lights city break, it will be an experience you will never forget. During the daytime, there are various sightseeing tours and excursions that you can choose to go on such as guided city walks, husky dog sledding, snowmobiling and Northern Lights bus tours. Due to Tromso’s northerly location, it has been used as a base for Arctic expeditionists many times in the past, and you can learn all about the history of polar exploration from local guides and in the various museums. See the selection below for more details about the excursions that are available, and if there is something that you want to include in your Northern Lights city break that is not on the list, our tour advisors will be only too happy to help.
