Norway: Tromso City Holidays
Superb sights and scenery in the Arctic Capital
The fabulous Norwegian city of Tromso is situated around 300 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. As a result of its location, it experiences some extreme weather, although the summer months remain fairly mild. Also, between late April and mid August, visitors on Tromso city holidays will experience no real darkness at all, as the rays of the Midnight Sun bathe the city in perpetual light. This means visitors can carry on their activities and excursions late into the evening and really get the most out of Tromso city holidays.
The compact city centre is filled with historic wooden houses, the oldest of which date back to 1789, and they are juxtaposed with some of the more modern architecture. A guided city walk is ideal for learning about the history of Tromso, as animated tour guides are eager to impart their knowledge of the city. There are plenty of impressive buildings and fascinating museums to visit during Tromso city holidays, or you may wish to travel further afield and see the magnificent countryside on an excursion. This is one of our best city breaks because it really gives you freedom to spend your time in Tromso as you wish, and we are happy to help organise any excursions on your behalf.

Days 2 to 3 - Explore Tromso on a City Break
There is so much to do on Tromso city holidays that it is almost impossible to include everything. If museums are your thing, the Polar Museum is a fascinating place to learn about hunting and Arctic expeditions. Polaria is another intriguing experience centre, and it also houses a fantastic aquarium. One of the more notable buildings to visit on a Norway city break is the Arctic Cathedral whose contemporary design is thought to resemble one of the glaciers of Norway. Tromso Cathedral on the other hand has a lot more history, having been built in 1861, and it is the only wooden cathedral in the country. During the summer, Tromso Cathedral hosts concerts which you can attend to experience fine classical music and Norwegian folk.
Travelling further afield on Tromso city holidays, take the cable car up to the top of Mount Storsteinen for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and fjords, or head out for a gentle hike with a pack of lively husky dogs and immerse yourself in Norway’s beautiful landscapes. An excursion to the nearby island of Kvaløya takes you out of the city and lets you explore the gorgeous coastline where sea eagles soar overhead and seals laze around on the sugary beaches. If we do not see thee Northern Lights here, we will drive further afield to various viewpoints to chase the elusive phenomena.
