Norway: Whale Watching and Wildlife Holidays Norway
Discover more about Norway’s natural world
For those who love nature and the outdoors, this short break in northern Norway is a must. On our whale watching and wildlife holidays your base will be the charming fishing port of Andenes, which is located approximately 300 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. During the summer months, this place experiences a phenomenon known as the Midnight Sun because of its high northerly latitude. This means that the sun barely sets before rising again, giving you long hours of daylight to fully enjoy your time in Norway.
We have chosen Andenes as the base for this tour because it only takes an hour by boat to reach one of the whale watching hotspots. It is a place called Bleik Canyon, which is located on the edge of the continental shelf. There is an abundance of food there which attracts whales of various species. On whale watching and wildlife holidays you could spot sperm whales, orcas, pilot whales, minke whales and humpback whales, and perhaps even Atlantic white-sided dolphins. You might also see white tailed eagles and other seabirds during your boat trip, as well as seals and harbour porpoises. The tours are accompanied by an expert guide who will tell you more about the wildlife that you see as well as giving you the benefit of his experience as a professional photographer by providing pointers on taking breathtaking wildlife photos if you're keen to capture the perfect image. Afterwards, you receive a certificate to commemorate your whale watching experience.

Your flight from the UK brings you to the fishing port of Andenes. Check into your coastal base for this tour, ideally situated for transfers to your activities, and enjoy a relaxing start to whale watching and wildlife holidays.
Days 2 to 4 - Whale Watching Tour
During these three days you will get the opportunity to embark on two exciting boat trips to the edge of the continental shelf, which is a hotspot for whale sightings. The majority of trips are successful in spotting the creatures of the deep but if you do not see them today, you will get another opportunity later in the trip. In your free time visit the Whale Centre and take a look around the museum, where you will learn about the types of whale that are often spotted in this part of Norway. The order of the safaris may change based upon the local weather conditions but on your free day the time is yours to explore independently.
