Sweden: Gota Canal Cruise Holidays in Sweden

A summer voyage through lovely countryside

A summer voyage through lovely countryside

The Gota Canal was constructed during the early 19th century to link up the various rivers and lakes between Sweden’s two main cities, Stockholm, the capital, and Gothenburg on the west coast. Our Gota Canal cruise holidays follow this 382 mile route over the course of six days, making plenty of stops along the way to allow guests to explore quaint towns and interesting landmarks. The Swedish tour is tremendously unique, highly relaxing, and the scenery that you will see from the ship is superb during the long summer days. As well as the canal voyage, you will also get the opportunity to spend some time in Gothenburg and Stockholm. Gothenburg has recently become somewhat of a centre for gastronomy owing to its cosmopolitan character, and there are plenty of museums and galleries to look around. Stockholm over on the east coast is interestingly spread across a total of 14 islands that are interconnected by bridges, and the best way to see the city is on a boat tour.

There are three beautifully restored ships that sail the Gota Canal; Diana which was built in 1931, Wilhelm Thom built in 1912, and the oldest of the three, Juno, which was built in 1874. Each ship offers guests a pleasant and intimate journey with cosy cabins, delicious food, an elegant restaurant, a comfortable lounge and deckchairs on the outside deck. If you were planning a Sweden holiday, there is no better way to see the country than on Gota Canal cruise holidays.
